The Indian entertainment industry has seen quite the rise in web series, or short series of videos streamed on the internet, and their popularity hasn’t dropped at all yet! Just recently, two popular web series were nominated to win the People’s Choice Award at the International Web-Series Festival Awards 2017. One of them won the award in its category, and the other was awarded third place! So, if you haven’t already watched any of these 8 Indian web series and movies, then you should definitely check them out ASAP!

3) The Test Case
Set in Delhi, The Test Case is a 2014 web series that follows a team of three medical students who go on a 20-day journey across India. As they travel from Delhi to Kanyakumari, with no support and limited resources, they must pass three tests along their way. Will these three unsuspecting students emerge victoriously or will greed and jealousy overwhelm them? This web series definitely makes you want to drop everything you’re doing and book a flight to India right away!
4) Fukrey Returns
The second season of Fukrey. The series follows a group of four oddball friends (Zac, Bholi, Choocha, and Mopps) who get involved in all sorts of hilarious situations due to their interesting backgrounds and personalities. Even after almost three years since its first installment came out on Netflix, fans haven’t been able to get enough of its relatable characters, witty script, and general hilarity. Unfortunately for me personally, I only got into it recently and binge-watched it in one day!
5) Permanent Roommates
Some of our favorite web series is produced by Studio 9 (the team behind Permanent Roommates), an independent production house based in Mumbai, India. Their hit web series include Permanent Roommates, Mom's Dead Upset, and How I Met Your Father. They've received a number of accolades for their work including three Asian Academy Awards, five Streamy Awards, two IAWTV awards. Some of their most popular works include The Viral Fever and Permanent Roommates.
6) Inside Edge
The first of two cricket web series produced by Yash Raj Films, Inside Edge features 10 episodes based on real events that happened to a fictional cricket team. The show is racy and fast-paced, and you’ll want to binge all 10 episodes in one sitting. But be warned: There are some spicy storylines that may not be suitable for children or adults who aren’t into dramas with adult content.
7) Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki
This web series is truly a masterpiece that anyone can relate to. Directed by Ekta Kapoor, it stars Ssharad Malhotra and Leena Jumani in lead roles. Set in Delhi, it narrates a love story against the backdrop of politics and family drama. Despite being highly cliched, we won’t deny that it’s been one of our favorites for a long now!
8) Baaraat
Baaraat takes place in Mumbai and revolves around a wedding planner with an unusual past. It's a light-hearted drama that reflects modern-day relationships with a strong Punjabi touch. Created by Ekta Kapoor, one of India's most successful producers, it boasts top Bollywood actors and loads of sparkle and glamour. It might not sound like your cup of tea at first glance, but give it a try—you'll be hooked before you know it!
